Beyond Decking (BD) Planks & STIRDECK™ Panels are founded on the Next Generation (NG) 463L pallet design. A four-year DoD effort focused on optimizing the overall design and fabrication approach resulting in an all Aluminum Pallet / Panel with incredable structual performance. Like the Pallet, STIRDECK™ Panels are fabricated from a multi-hollow extrusion,(BD Planks) joined by friction stir welding. BDE is North America’s only supplier of this advanced designed structural aluminum product for residential and commercial builders.
The same engineering expertise and product quality that charaterizes STIRDECK™ Panels are built into our standard Framing and Railing Systems.
Beyond Decking (BD) Planks
The BD Plank is unique in that as a deck surface it also provides the load structural support. The planks transfer the loads (like a joist) into the frame beams.
- The strength of the planks are 5x higher than most alternative decking product like composite or other traditional alumimum decking
- Reduces the number of floor joists required
- Speeds up installation due to decreased weight and fewer supports
- Excellent solution for unique elevated flooring – Low Deflection, L480 or higher optional
- 2015 IBC & 2020 ADM Compliant
Plank Specifications:
- BD Universal Profile Width – 9.5”
- Profile thickness 2.25”
- Profile lbs./ft – 2.534 lbs.
- Any cut back length up to 48 feet
BD Plank Coating Options:
- AaCron Anodizing – Many color options, Size – 5’ x 40’ panels can be anodized.
- Powder coating – all panel sizes can be powder coated to a durable finely textured finish.
BD Plank Engineering Analysis Report:
This report summary is the results of an engineering analysis based on the requirements of the 2015 International Building Code, 2015 International Residential Code, and 2020 Aluminum Design Manual, accepted engineering practices, and industry design standards.
Analysis and Findings:
The Planks are Aluminum 6063-T6 multi-hollow extrusions, typically used as a structural beam for decking, flooring, roofing, or construction. The deck products were analyzed using the following beam configuration to determine the maximum allowable loads (PSF) based on span, deflection, and material fiberstress limitations:
- Single Span – 9.5” aluminum plank simply supported at both ends
All beam configurations were analyzed using five maximum deflection allowances L/XXX, the L stands for the length, so if you have a beam 10ft long the allowable deflection limit is (10ft x12in/ft) / 360 = .333, if using L360, typical building code requirement for decking or flooring. The table shows the end results of the analysis for a single span deflection load limits in pounds per square foot (PSF), at 10ft (120”) joist span / L360 = 40.2 PSF. Typical deck building code requires it be designed to support a minimum 40-psf live load. A 10’ wide x 40’ long BD Plank or STIRDECK™ and frame system, with zero joist beams is so unique, nothing like it on the market.
Allowable stresses are based upon the shape of the decking extrusion, material properties, and length of the unsupported span. All calculations can be found within the detailed report on file.
The significantly high strength to weight ratio makes it possible to offer lightweight structural deck solutions never seen before.
STIRDECK™ panels provide builders the best watertight structural panel for elevated decks, commercial roofing, mezzanine plaforms or construction support beams. General Contractors or OEM’s will find that there are many advantages to using STIRDECK™ panels for their future projects or in future product designs.
Benefits associated with the STIRDECK™ panels:
- Significantly lighter than steel but offers the same strength
- “Deployment Ready” prefabricated deck/floor panels facilitate rapid installation
- Much lighter than steel but offers comparable strength
- Offers superior longevity compared to wood construction products
- Are environmentally friendly, a “green” product, infinitely recyclable
- Corrosion resistant aluminum reduces maintenance (requires no painting)
- Excellent solution for unique elevated flooring (e.g. tile or stone)– Low Deflection, L480 or higher
- 2015 IBC & 2020 ADM Compliant

STIRDECK™ Panel Performance
The BD Planks after being friction stir welded into large panels offer watertight solution with strength to weight ratios never seen in the construction industry. The panel products are using the BD Planks which determine the maximum allowable loads (PSF) based on span, deflection, and the total panel square feet:
- Single Span – 9.5” aluminum plank simply supported at both ends.
Using the BD Plank single span deflection table 1, the total load capacity of the STIRDECK™ panel can be calculated. The maximum deflection allowances L/XXX, the L stands for the plank length, so if you have a beam 7ft long the allowable deflection limit is (7 ft x 12in/ft) / 360 = .233”, if using L360, a typical IBS decking requirement. The table shows pounds per square foot (PSF), at 7 ft (84”) joist span / L360 = 117.2 PSF.
Standard Aluminum Framing
The same engineering expertise and product quality that characterize the Beyond Decking Planks & Watertight STIRDECK™ Panels are built into our Standard Aluminum Framing System. Utilizing the BDE Framing System assures you are getting the load capacity required at a reasonable cost, with superior quality throughout. The framing system can be utilized inside or outside. The system is designed for deck, mezzanine, or balcony.
- Completely fabricated aluminum components require no drilling, cutting, or welding.
- BDE Standard stairs and handrails are available, or Off-The Shelf products can be in installed to specified code.
- (Optional) Installations are made by experienced contractors. All supplied products are warranted for workmanship and material by BDE.
- To aid installation, component parts are piece marked with cross references to an installation manual complete with drawings.

Residential and Commercial Railing System and Stairs
The same engineering expertise and product quality that characterize the Beyond Decking Planks & Watertight STIRDECK™ Panels are built into our Standard Railing Systems.
Top Mounting Residential or Commercial Railing System
BDE offers a top mount railing solution is much like the DecPro Prestige Railing product. The components are interchangeable, so it is possible to utilize posts, brackets, and other Prestige product options with the BDE Railing Kit. The BDE Railing and balusters anodized providing an increased lifespan and durability.
The Railing kit is standard extruded aluminum profiles that offer unequal durability.
- The top and bottom rail are composed of a 6005-T5 one piece aluminum profiles.
- The baluster connectors are pre-mounted to the rails.
- The balusters are ¾” square diameter one piece aluminum profiles composed of 6063-T6.
DecPro Prestige posts kits provide the necessary strength and loading capacity required for IBC residential and commercial applications.
- The residential and commercial post is a 3-inch square post is extruded 6005-T6 aluminum tube with internal screw slots and a 5” square mounting flange available in 3/8” and ½” thickness.
